Mais ou Menos Pouf Pouf / Ottoman
Working with the scraps of the town's leather craft industry, A Associação (a women's collective in Pratania, Brazil) band together to join these small leftover pieces into small ottoman poufs. Through their common skill of crochet, the women divide each product into portions which are then taken to be fabricated at home while attending to other duties. Once each week, the women gather back together to complete the full pouf out of their individual pieces. This allows the women to work on their own schedule, around other needs, while providing a portion of economic independence.
The object itself imbues a feminine quality, a decorative presence, evidential of its makers.
Through a program connecting design, traditional hand craft, and new markets, Mais ou Menos products are produced by the women's association, A Associação, in Pratania, Brazil with the assistance of StraaT and the support of a CCA Student Center Grant. |
