personproductplace is a design practice run through the efforts of Ryan Duke. Through a range of client driven and self-initiated projects, his work seeks to emphasize the value of the social and environmental contexts in which our objects exists. Searching out manners and methods in pursuit of such, he works to apply meaningful design in mindful areas.

Living and working out of the engine of energy that is the San Francisco Bay Area, much of Ryan's professional work has straddled the realms of corporate clientèle and of the ever-evolving arena of social design - ranging from high-technology and high volume consumer products, to small hand-crafted objects and private commission furniture.

With an entrepreneurial drive, his work has brought him into relationships with artisanal craft groups in Brazil, programs for those with barriers to employment in East Oakland, microfinanced women's collectives in Mongolia and Kenya, refugee placement programs in the Bay Area, wheelchair users in Haiti, to Silicon Valley technology start-ups, and Fortune 500 companies.

In addition, Ryan leads the San Francisco outfit of the non-profit design group Project H Design. With impact both domestically and abroad, he directs a team of designers on pro-bono projects for clients who have limited access to creative capital.

Ryan has presented his work in design at a range of conferences and in exhibitions across the United States, his work being published in a variety of media outlets. He has been involved in projects that have received multiple awards including the IDSA International Design Excellence Award and the I.D. Annual Design Review.

Helping to foster student's continued engagement with social design - Ryan has served as a design coach at the University of California Berkeley, as an external critic at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, and as a guest critic at Studio H in North Carolina.

With personproductplace, a keen awareness of context and an intuitive emotional intelligence inform a strategic approach to considered design - mindful design begets the memorable.
